Sony has tweaked its line of headphones recently, and its latest announcement adds the WF-C700N to its line of affordable true wireless along with a new color finish for the WH-1000XM5.
The WF-C700 sits above the WF-C500 in both spec and price, offering active noise cancellation and a £100/€120 price tag. They are meant to be lightweight and comfortable to wear for long periods of time. The IP rating is rated at IPX4 to keep water and sweat away.
The cylindrical charging case also adds to the portable feel of these headphones, small enough to slip into a pocket. With noise cancellation and Sony’s ambient sound mode, the user can choose to block out sounds or let them through using predictive microphones.
Parameters for the Noise cancellation can be customized in the Sony Headphones Connect app, where the user can choose to focus on people’s voices so they can chat without removing the headphones. The WF-C700N also uses the Adaptive Sound Control feature which automatically adjusts ambient sound settings based on where you are.
Turn it on and it will recognize places you visit often, allowing you to tailor noise canceling performance to specific locations, such as at home, work or the gym. The wind noise reduction structure aims to provide clear voice quality during calls even in windy conditions.
According to Sony, the WF-C700N delivers high-quality sound with its DSEE (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine) in-line with its 5mm driver, claiming performance with “powerful bass and incredibly clear vocals”. The application allows to modify the sound of the headphones with the equalization parameters.
Battery life is rated at 15 hours (although we were initially told it was 20 with the charging case), and the WF-C700N also supports Bluetooth multipoint, a feature that the WF-1000XM4 have been recently updated with, and it allows true wireless headphones to connect to two Bluetooth devices at the same time. It comes in four colors: lavender, black, white and sage green.
A new Midnight Blue finish has also been announced for the award-winning WH-1000XM5, joining Platinum Silver and Black finishes. This new color is available this month (April 2023).
