Last year, steam bridge Modders figured out how, with a bit of file modding, you could swap out the generic intro video that plays when the console boots up with your own video. Now, in time for the one-year anniversary of the Steam Deck’s launch, Valve has released official getting started videos and made it easier to customize what plays when activating a Steam Deck.
On paper, Valve launched the Steam Deck on February 25, 2022. However, most people didn’t get one until months later because at first the laptop was hard to buy due to supply. limited and high demand. It’s over now. And a year later, it’s not only easy to buy a Steam Deck, but it’s clear the device is here to stay, with tons of support from developers and publishers and many gamers around the world. people enjoying their Steam games anytime and anywhere. Valve did the steam bridge easy to edit and customize, and people quickly figured out how replace the basic boot video with dumber stuff. And now Valve, apparently inspired by these homemade creations– features new official starter videos that players can purchase with Steam Points.
The announcement of official support for custom boot animations came as part of a larger article focusing on the first anniversary of the Steam Deck and how far things have come for Valve’s laptop.
So far, Valve has released 20 new custom starter videos, which can be purchased using Steam Points. This is similar to how keyboard and profile themes work on Steam today. Not only has Valve added its own official startup videos, but it’s also made it easier than ever to select which videos to play when booting up the Deck. No more fiddling with folders and the Deck’s useful (but not super user-friendly) desktop mode. Even better, if you don’t like making choices, you can set it to random. And this new shuffle option as well as the new startup video settings menu will work with existing custom intros that you may already have built into your Steam Deck.
So don’t worry, you can keep your weird Shrek memes and even add more and have them play randomly every time you start the Deck. In what world are we living !
