Vince McMahon’s return to WWE keep unfolding. The longtime WWE executive returned to the board last January, citing an insistence on helping sell the company. Shortly after that, WWE Chairman and Co-CEO Stephanie McMahon has resigned from her corporate duties, leaving the CEO responsibilities solely in the hands of Nick Khan and stepping down as President. This led to Vince being re-elected as WWE Chairman, giving him back the majority of the business power he held before his retirement. Vince’s return to the board didn’t come with any creative scrutiny, as he stressed WWE’s management team would remain the same.
That said, many have questioned how long this will ring true. Reports have surfaced that Vince has started making creative suggestions again, with some speculating that Brock Lesnar’s recent booking against Omos is a match made by McMahon.
This Lesnar program against Omos was brought forward last week on Monday night grossas the Nigerian giant made quick work of Dolph Ziggler, continuing his momentum towards WWE Wrestlemania 39. Vince had a front row seat to this squash fight as well as the entirety of the recent red brand show, as he was backstage for the first time since retiring in the summer of 2022. This appearance was reportedly only for support John Cena, as the multiple-time world champion returned to the business at Monday night raw set up a WrestleMania program with US WWE Champion Austin Theory.
As reported by Dave Meltzer on the Wrestling ObserverVince’s Raw tour billed as a tour for Cena is “what they want you to believe”. Meltzer pointed out that “Triple H was in charge” but that Vince’s backstage appearance was “more than” just a visit.
It should be noted that Vince’s name was recently removed from WWE Wrestlemania 39 advertisement shortly after his name was initially spotted on a poster for the event. It comes months later WWE Content Director Paul “Triple H” Levesque called a backstage meeting to ‘calm down’ the roster regarding the future of the company’s creative direction.
