We already know that Noel Gallagher was very excited about Robert Smith’s remix of his recent single Pretty Boy because he said itand now we can judge for ourselves.
And it’s not really a surprise that the Heal legend did a wonderful job of taking the track to a level of lush layers β even adding his own psychedelic guitar solo to kick it up a notch.
It makes us wonder what an entire Smith-produced Christmas album would sound like.
I had a lot of fun slowing it down and spacing it out
“I was surprised and thrilled when Noel asked me to remix this beautiful song,” Smith says. “And I had a lot of fun slowing it down and spacing it out. Cure drummer Jason Cooper gave me a great, vibrant drum track to play – and the rest fell into place under the starry sky. of my distant moon.”
The collaboration was as simple as Noel asking Smith via email. “I asked if he would get involved and sent him the track and he loved it,” Gallagher explained to Huw Stephens of BBC Radio Wales. βHe did the remix. And I loved it. I had never met him before. I had never discussed with him. But I’ve always been a fan of The Cure and the remix sounds exactly like The Cure. Yeah, turns out he’s kind of a dude! ‘β
Gallagher was prompted to reach out when he heard parallels between his song and Smith’s work with The Cure.
“Pretty Boy as it unfolded was reminiscent of The Cure’s heyday,” Gallagher said. “And it was just one of those crazy ideas that you tend to have in the middle of the night, thinking, ‘I wonder if Robert Smith [would] to be involved. I wonder if I can reach him.
Now we also wonder if Noel will reciprocate if the new healing album never saw the light of day this year.
