I think most would agree that James Cameron is one of the greatest filmmakers to ever break into the world of cinema. Over the past 40 years, he has delivered a plethora of impressive cinematic efforts, The Terminator And Aliens For the abyss And Titanic. In recent years, however, it has been engulfed in the Avatar franchise and marked the release of box office giant who is The way of the water at the end of 2022. Although the movie was a big hit, it seems like Cameron isn’t above helping the public while moving forward with the other planned movies. Turns out he hosted a screening for TWOW in order to get feedback on the next threequel.
James Cameron held the screening of Avatar: The Way of the Water shortly before it became the third highest-grossing film of all time worldwide in February. According The Hollywood Reporter, Cameron and fellow producer Jon Landau spoke to the audience at the screening, which reportedly took place on the grounds of Walt Disney Studios in Burbank. As the trade points out, Cameron and Landau took the time to answer questions about the movie in hopes of getting some insight into how they should proceed with the next three films. The 68-year-old director was apparently very honest with the crowd about why he invited them:
It’s something we’ve never done, that is, [ask], ‘How can we make the next movie even better for the fans?’ Go talk to them, find out what you have in mind. … You can be totally honest with us, it’s not just about telling us things we want to hear. It’s about telling us the things we…need to work on more.
On the one hand, it is surprising that someone as accomplished as the real lies director would need to organize such an event. But if you look at it from another angle, it all makes sense, as the detail-oriented filmmaker always aims to please the audience. Apparently, he also didn’t mind getting into the weeds while talking shop with viewers. Star Track Tours owner Jeff Napshin, who was in attendance, spoke with THR about his experience, and he says the Oscar-winning actor wasn’t shy about talking about everything. Avatar following:
He also joked about some plot errors he faced in the film and how the film’s plot was constantly changing in the edit as they tried to figure out what worked. I truly believe this experience was unique and special, and as James Cameron said, let’s get together in two years and see if our ideas and feedback made the film.
Few details have been revealed about the next chapter in the sci-fi saga, although James Cameron has revealed some minor details. He’s mostly excited to talk about the new species of Na’vi that will appear in the next trio. Such a group is the villains Ash Peopleof which the leader will be played by Game Of Thrones veterinarian Oona Chaplin. Cameron also teased the desert people and individuals belonging to other “biodomes” as part of the film. Of course, Jake Sully and his family will remain at the center of the story.
We still have time before our next trip to Pandora, so we can only speculate how the movie will turn out. Although one would think that the Canadian director and his colleague had a good idea, especially since they have already obtained the names of the viewers and want to meet for a Avatar 3 showing on the road. Their thoughts apparently “brought a measurable improvement” to the new movie, and one can only hope the reviews all help in the long run.
Avatar 3 is set to open in theaters on December 20, 2024. In the meantime, you can still catch The Way of Water and stream the first film using a Disney+ subscription.
