Alexa, play Rumors by Fleetwood Mac … followed by Dawn by Daisy Jones and the Six.
years before Daisy Jones and the Six became a series for Amazonauthor Taylor Jenkins Reid spoke about the inspiration behind his beloved characters, paying homage to former band members Fleetwood Mac Stevie Nicks And Lindsey Buckingham.
In a position for Hello Sunshine production companyReid remembers seeing a performance of “Landslide” when Fleetwood Mac: The Dance (a special) was rerun on MTV when I was 13.
“As the song came to an end, Stevie and Lindsey moved closer to each other, smiling fondly, maybe even a little wistfully. Lindsey stopped scratching for a moment and Stevie let him go. fly as he watched from the sideline. And for a split second – really, a slice of a moment – Lindsey put her fist under her chin and looked at Stevie like she was a miracle,” wrote Reid. “And I thought, ‘Oh, they’re in love with each other.’ I haven’t thought of it in a revealing way. It didn’t even seem like such a great achievement. It just seemed obvious.
When Reid learned the two musicians hadn’t been a couple for decades at the time. of the performance, she was shocked. Years later, she watched the entire Fleetwood Mac: The Dance TV special on YouTube and sought to better understand the complicated dynamic between Nicks and Buckingham.
“When I decided I wanted to write a book about rock ‘n’ roll, I kept coming back to that moment Lindsey was watching Stevie sing ‘Landslide.’ How it felt so much like two people in love. will never really know what happened between them,” she explained of her 2017 novel. “I wanted to write a story about it, about how the lines between real life and performance can fade, about how singing about old wounds could keep them fresh.”
Nicks and Buckingham inspired Reid to create Daisy Jones (played by Riley Keough in the TV adaptation) and Billy Dunne (Sam Clafin). However, these aren’t the only two characters that can be linked to the actual group. Suki Water Housewho plays keyboardist Karen Sirko on the show, named keyboardist and vocalist to the late Fleetwood Mac Christine McVie as a source of inspiration.
“Karen Sirko is English on screen, so obviously I watched Christie. An absolutely legendary woman. I was completely in love with her,” Waterhouse said. NME in March 2023.
Graham Dunne’s portrait painter, Will Harrison, also taken from Buckingham. “Graham is Billy’s little brother. He’s sort of the peacemaker of the group,” Harrison explained to the outlet. Lindsey Buckingham’s [inspiration] cannot be ignored. There was a lot of fingerpicking stuff for me to play on this show and a lot of it was inspired by him.
Daisy Jones and the Six begins streaming on Amazon on Friday, March 3.
